THE PROBLEM
One of the UK's most respected academics was accused by a female member of staff of inappropriate workplace behaviour.
THE SOLUTION
The woman, who had been sacked for inefficiency, alleged the academic had put his arms around her on more than one occasion.
The scholar protested his innocence and we believed him.
The university, however, was all set to pay compensation to the woman to avoid the embarrassment of an employment tribunal till we started digging.
We discovered she had succeeded in extorting money from a previous employer by making similar allegations.
Case closed.
